The Darrin incorporated serial innovative and somewhat radical features including the use of the fiberglass bodies, a three position concealable convertible top and doors that slid forward into the front fenders. Company sales literature described the car as “exquisite beauty”..... achieved without the use of ornamental moldings”. It was indeed a departure from the chrome ornamentation that bedecked most of America’s automobiles. The beautiful fender sweep, long hood and distinctive front and rear styling harmony was vintage Dutch Darrin. Parking lights that matched the design of the grill and tear drop taillights reflect an artistic attention to detail. The company merged with Willys-Overland in 1954, only to product its last passenger car in the US in 1955. While the Kaiser marquee lasted less then 10 years, it contributed to the development of a new school of automotive design, emphasizing sleek, low lines.
